  • Sri Lanka Launches National Cyber Security Operations Centre and Protection Strategy: A New Era for Cybersecurity Training

In a landmark move toward digital resilience, the Government of Sri Lanka has launched the National Cyber Security Operations Centre (NCSOC) alongside the National Cyber Protection Strategy (2025–2029). The initiative marks a major step toward strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity posture and nurturing a skilled workforce to safeguard the country’s digital future.

The new framework, unveiled under the leadership of the Ministry of Technology, emphasizes capacity building, skills development, and workforce readiness as core pillars of Sri Lanka’s cybersecurity roadmap.

A Strategy to Build Cyber Resilience

According to Sri Lanka CERT , the National Cyber Protection Strategy aims to create a skilled cybersecurity workforce capable of addressing the growing number of digital threats facing government institutions, businesses, and critical infrastructure.

The framework also includes measures to:

  • Enhance public cybersecurity awareness especially among youth and students.
  • Strengthen institutional readiness within government and private sectors.
  • Foster collaboration with international partners for advanced training and threat intelligence sharing.

These measures align with Sri Lanka’s broader Digital Economy Transformation Plan, reinforcing the country’s ambition to become a regional leader in secure digital innovation.

A Turning Point for IT and Cybersecurity Training

This national initiative opens a new chapter for professional IT training institutes across the country. With the government’s focus on cybersecurity, demand for practical, industry-aligned training is expected to rise sharply.

Training providers are now encouraged to:

  • Develop certified cybersecurity programs aligned with international standards (CEH, CISSP, CompTIA Security+, and SANS).
  • Partner with government agencies and international cybersecurity bodies for collaborative capacity building.
  • Offer hands-on training in areas such as threat analysis, incident response, secure cloud infrastructure, and data protection.

As Sri Lanka enhances its cybersecurity framework, cybersecurity training is emerging as one of the most sought-after professional development areas in the IT sector.

Opportunities for IT Professionals

For IT professionals and students, the timing couldn’t be better. The NCSOC and national strategy will create new roles in security operations, cyber governance, and digital forensics across both public and private sectors.

Experts recommend that professionals upskill in cybersecurity through accredited training programs to stay relevant in the evolving job market. Certifications such as CEH, CISSP, and ISO 27001 are expected to be in high demand as organizations adapt to the new standards introduced by the national strategy.

A National Commitment to Digital Safety

By establishing a centralized Cyber Security Operations Centre, Sri Lanka joins the ranks of nations actively investing in cyber defense infrastructure. The initiative not only strengthens digital trust but also supports the country’s vision of becoming a secure digital hub in South Asia.

The coming years will see strong collaboration between education, government, and the private sector, ensuring that Sri Lanka’s digital transformation is both innovative and secure.
